Star Fox Team

Elite pilots defending the Lylat System.

The Star Fox Team is an elite group of mercenary pilots who defend the Lylat System. In Star Fox Command, the team has disbanded a few years after the events of Star Fox Assault. Fox McCloud patrols the galaxy with ROB 64, while Falco Lombardi has become an independent mercenary, Slippy Toad has retired to spend time with his fiancée Amanda, and Krystal has joined the Star Wolf team after breaking up with Fox. Peppy Hare serves as commander of the Cornerian Defense Force under General Pepper, who remains alive and in charge. The team's legacy is built on courage and technical skill, but Command shows them scattered, with Fox rushing to battle the aquatic Anglar alien race alone at first.

Lore & Background

The Star Fox Team was originally founded by James McCloud, Fox's father. In Star Fox Command, set a few years after Star Fox Assault, the team has disbanded. Fox McCloud patrols the galaxy with ROB 64, learning of the Anglars, a race of aquatic aliens bioengineered by Andross living beneath Venom's acidic seas. Led by the Anglar Emperor, they wage war across the Lylat system. Fox rushes to battle them as they attack Corneria. The game features fourteen playable characters, including Star Fox members Fox, Falco, Krystal, Slippy, and Peppy; Star Wolf members Wolf, Panther, and Leon; supporting characters Bill Grey and Katt Monroe; Fox's father James McCloud; and new characters Amanda (Slippy's fiancée), Lucy (Peppy's daughter), and Dash Bowman (Andross's grandson). Non-playable characters include ROB 64, Beltino Toad, and bosses like the Anglar Emperor, Pigma Dengar, and Octoman. Andrew Oikonny appears as a minor antagonist but is not a boss fight.

In Their Own Story

A few years after the self-destruction of the Aparoid race, the Star Fox team has disbanded. Peppy has succeeded General Pepper as commander of the Cornerian army; Falco has become an independent mercenary; Slippy has retired to spend time with his fiancée Amanda; and Krystal has joined the Star Wolf team after breaking up with Fox. While patrolling the galaxy with ROB 64, Fox learns of the Anglars, a race of aquatic aliens bioengineered by Andross living beneath Venom's acidic seas. Led by the Anglar Emperor, they begin waging war across the Lylat system. Learning that the Anglars are attacking Corneria, Fox rushes to battle the invaders. The story has multiple paths and nine possible endings, each revealing a different future for the characters, such as Amanda joining Star Fox, Fox and Krystal's son Marcus forming a new Star Fox team, Krystal becoming a bounty hunter, or Dash leading efforts to revitalize Venom.

Reader's Guide

In Star Fox Command, the Star Fox Team is initially disbanded. Fox McCloud pilots the Great Fox with ROB 64. The game has two single-player modes: a strategic map mode and a battle mode. In the map mode, the player commands up to four ships in a turn-based strategy game, preventing enemy ships from reaching the Great Fox. Players can fire missiles from the Great Fox picked up from exploring or meeting battle conditions. When a player-controlled craft encounters an enemy group or missile, gameplay switches to battle mode. Battle mode is all-range, similar to Star Fox 64's all-range mode and the cancelled Star Fox 2. Objectives include destroying a base ship, destroying all enemies, or collecting cores. Players choose different routes after completing levels, leading to nine different endings. The game supports six players in local wireless multiplayer via DS Download Play and up to three players on Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, where only the Arwing II is available. Players collect stars from destroyed opponents, and Wi-Fi uses a ranking system from Z (lowest) to A (highest).
